Emerging Market Multinationals have strategic advantages to further development, finds a study commissioned by BMZ

The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) launched a study on Emerging Market Multinationals as Development Agents at the 14th International Business Forum in Berlin. They study, which was authored by a team of Endeva consultants, builds on case examples from twelve Emerging Market Multinationals based in six emerging economies.

It finds that Emerging Market Multinationals have three strategic advantages over their northern brethren when it comes to engaging in development: they are already rooted in emerging economies, they already reach out to low-income populations in many ways, and they are already heavily invested in other emerging and developing countries, including LDCs. The report outlines the various options for advancing sustainable human development based on these 'competitive advantages' and shows where Emerging Market Multinationals can receive support to realize this potential.

The report is available for download.
